Summary of Creatures of Prometheus

Technology and gender are never unrelated s explained in Greek mythology.  Men and women can differ according to the uses of technology and the creation of technology.  Such examples in Greek mythology have been the fight between Zeus and Prometheus and Plato’s written distinction of men and women.  The Cartesian Paradigm explained that we have a connection between the we (gender specific) make and the way we (gender unspecific) use, which can help to explain how gender and technology are related.

Creatures of Prometheus

Humans and their technology are intertwined. The ability of building was given to us from the gods through 2 forms, fire and art. This gift has given us the ability to create things otherwise known as technology, which is now controlling our lives.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

There is a connection between humans and the things they make. Zeus created seductive women to try to distract men from the god like ability of building given by Prometheus. Before man was given the knowledge on how to use technology, they were considered to be nothing. Technology helped man to become more advanced to such a certain extent that it would be difficult to function without it.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

There is a connection between humans and the things they make. The ability of building things, which last for a long time, is what makes humans different from beasts and closer to God. Without the ability of building, technology, humans could not be called such.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

There is a clear distinction between the thing we create and the way we use them.Prometheus bestows powers on man by stesling the god-like power of builing. However,Zeus tries to combact by creating the seductive power of women.Men and women differ accoding to uses of thchnology, and they use it good or evil depending on themselves. We become dependent on technologyin the future,we will not able to continme being human without it.

Summary of Creatures of Prometheus

There is a clear connection and distinction between man and they thing they make. However the ways they are made and used vary. Genders influence on technology is great, simply because women don't have the physicality to complete the same tasks as men; hence the distinction between men and women. Moreover advancements in technology have given man the world that it has today. However this world has now become dependant on technology, to a point where man can't function without it.

Summary of Creatures of Prometheus

Technology is a huge factor in defining human nature. Two issues that reiterate this purposal include: the important difference between the things humans make and the way they use them, and the role of technology in distinguishing gender roles. Humans are capable of making neutral objects and using them for either good or evil; this is a defining point for what it means to be human. Technology brought about the ability to do different tasks, some just for men and some just for women; the difference in the technology they use and how they use it (ie: labor) is what distinguishes males from females.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

The god-like power of creation defines men as men and in essence, women have the power to distract them from it. Women and men both make artifacts in different ways but the way that they use them defines them as human. Technology helped define us and it helped us advance, but we became so dependant on it that we would not be able to continue without it.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

Creatures of Prometheus is talking about how gender and technology are related as well as how mankind became human when they accepted the powers of art and fire that Prometheus stole from the g-ds and used it to create things that lasted forever. It also talks about how Zeus gave woman their seductive powers over men to distract them from using their g-d like ability of building. It then talks about how men and woman differ in their use of technology as well as how humans advanced and became more educated because of it. In the end it shows us we have become so addicted to technology that it dictates our future and what it means to be human.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

There is a link between humans and the things they make. Epimetheus bestowed power on all creatures but man, so Prometheus bestowed man with certain powers. Zeus to counteract this, created the seductive power of women, so that they will distract men from building buildings which are immortal. Men and women make artifacts but differ according to the uses of technology. Thanks to Prometheus humans have the knowledge of how to use technology. Technology has allowed us to advance but determines our future, and without it we would have a difficult time to continue being human.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

Zeus crated the seductive women to distract the men that were bestowed power of building by Prometheus’s act of stealing god-like power. Women and men are not origins differ but become unlike as uses of technology. There is a clear distinction between the theory we create and the way we use them and this in turn defines what it reason to be human, and in order to be more advanced, men must know solving to technology.

Creatures Of Prometheus Summary

Even though there is a connection between humans and the things they make, theres a distinction in the way they use them. Men and women are the same in ways, but are different according to the way they use technology. Since Epimetheus didn't give powers to man, Prometheus decided to steal some from the gods (for man), which caused Zeus to create woman to distract man. Prometheus also gave mankind knowledge on how to use technology, and that helped us become more human. We've become so dependant on it, that without it, we woudn't be able to continue being human.

Creatures of Prometheus Summary

Before technology man was nothing. When the gifts of art and fire were bestowed on humans this gave them the "divine" ability to build, this blurred the distinction between mortals and immortals. Women were created by Zeus to distract men from this divine act of building, but in fact are not so different because both make artifacts but use them in different ways. There is a connection between humans and the things they make because both can not survive without the other. There is a also a clear distinction between the things we create, the ways we use them, and which gender uses it; both rely on each other and through this connection we no longer have to worry about bare survival.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory/2001 Space Odyssey

The movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" has a scene that includes a short clip from the movie "2001: Space Odyssey". It appears in this Youtube clip. The Oompa Loompa is watching television when all of a sudden the chocolate bar appears in the same place the monolith appeared in the movie "2001: Space Odyssey". Watch this clip and be prepared to be amazed.

The Space Odyssey is trying to impart our relationship with technology which was the obelisk and how human violence, even unintentionally, is caused by it. This was demonstrated by the ape coming upon the bones right after the obelisk clip. Then the clip represents that with the deaths of the first few animals other animals are caused to die. This was represented by the ape killing other animals with the bones of the ones it found. The clip is also trying to show what it means to be “human” by all this pointless killing by apes which represent humans before we evolved. I do not agree with this representation and I feel that many people value life over technology and are very upset when they see pointless killing. Even now with oil prices so high people are opposing the option to dig in Alaska and kill some of the environment and wildlife so that gas would be cheaper. Also not all technology causes harm some of it is very helpful and environmentally friendly like medicines, bikes and solar panels.

Welcome to your Cyber Comp Blog!

This blog has been set up for our class to have a collective, virtual space in which to write and discuss. I will give you specific blog assignments throughout the semester, but I also encourage you to use this space to post relevant images, articles, videos, comments, etc. that you want to share with the class.

Your first blog assignment: What does this film clip, which begins Stanley Kubrick's 1968 classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, say about the relationship between technology, violence and what it means to be "human"? Do you agree? Why or why not?
